Dr. Marcie Cowley

 

Assistant Professor Marcie Cowley holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Russian and Spanish and a Juris Doctor degree for law.  Her PhD is in history with a major field in Russian and Soviet history, and other fields in modern European history and migration studies. 

When not teaching on MSU’s beautiful campus, she has focused in recent years on developing and leading education abroad programs.  Her background with education abroad dates to her high school and undergraduate college years, including spending her senior year of high school as a Rotary exchange student in The Netherlands and various college programs in Italy, Spain, Russia and the United Kingdom.  She has been a faculty leader and instructor on education abroad programs to France, Belgium, China and Belize, and is in the process of program development for Ireland (2022), Australia (2023), New Zealand (2023) and a study away (together with Dr. Boucher) in Las Vegas, Nevada (2022).  She recently received funding for a proposal to the Faculty-Directed Education Abroad Program Innovation Fund to develop a program on Social Science Method in The Hague, Netherlands. 

Recent seminar and workshop participation includes a faculty seminar on Building Global and Sustainable Communities, Scholars and Citizens: Engaging Across the Disciplines (Costa Rica, 2018), a Global Education Symposium: Thinking Differently about Intercultural Competence (Elon University, North Carolina, 2019) and a panelist presenter at a MSU Education Abroad Workshop on Intercultural Learning: Foundations and Tools to Develop Global Citizens (2020).
